NEC Health Engage and Swansea Bay University Health Board recognised in techUK flagship healthcare report
NEC Health Engage’s work with Swansea Bay University Health Board has been recognised in techUK’s latest flagship healthcare report, From Analogue to Digital: How the UK Technology Sector Can Deliver the 10-Year Health Plan.
Launched at the techUK Health and Care Summit 2026 in London on 8 October, the report brings together examples of how technology can support the ambitions of the NHS 10-Year Health Plan. The Summit brought together leaders from government, the NHS, social care and industry to discuss the future of health and care.

NEC Health Engage’s case study, Supporting Patients on Waiting Lists Through Digital Risk Stratification and Prehabilitation, is featured as an example of how digital technology can support access and flow across elective care. It highlights how Swansea Bay University Health Board is using NEC Health Engage to support patients while they wait for treatment and manage elective care pathways more effectively.
By combining patient-reported information, risk assessment and targeted interventions, NEC Health Engage helps healthcare teams identify patient needs and risks earlier in the pathway. This enables patients to receive appropriate support while they wait for treatment, while helping clinical teams reduce unnecessary appointments and make better use of available capacity.
In the first 12 months, more than 3,500 patients were supported through the platform.
Key results:
- 3,564 patients supported through the platform
- 71% patient compliance rate
- More than 500 pre-operative appointments avoided
- 1,176 patients referred to prehabilitation services
- 2,183 patients received osteoarthritis education and exercise support
- 475 smokers offered smoking cessation support
- 404 patients identified as no longer suitable for surgery
“Having this work recognised in techUK’s report is a reflection of what can be achieved when digital technology is used to support patients throughout their elective care pathway, not simply at the point of treatment.
Waiting for treatment should not mean standing still. Our work with Swansea Bay University Health Board shows how better insight into patients’ needs can help teams intervene earlier, support people to prepare for treatment and manage waiting lists more effectively.”
